The video is a little bit choppy but the message is solid. I basically agree with everything he's saying.

This person talks about some of the benefits and problems with being a software engineer, or programmer. He doesn’t go very in depth but he does make some very good points. The ideas that he presents here are some very important things to keep in mind.

This guy goes in depth about what being a software engineer is and what it takes to become one. He even talks about why he believes the industry is losing so many people. He also lists out some of the benefits of this career choice.

This is the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Outlook Handbook. This section of the book contains all the information possible about being a programmer. It includes information about how long the career field is expected to grow and how much.

This guy talks about what a Software Engineer is and what differentiates it from a programmer. He says how programming is a bit of a mix between art and science. He also talks about how if certain things were made by programmers they would be vastly different.

1. http://www.cynergysystems.com/ -This is a website for a place called "Cynergy Systems." The company can create software for anyone. They use tools such as; C#, Silverlight, Adobe Flex, etc. From the website I can tell that they go to the various computer and software trade shows. The website itself is very well done. You can get help with a project already in progress. If you just have a basic idea, they can help with that as well.

2. http://blog.bluezsolutions.com/ -This is a blog by a guy named, Trent Taufer. He is a Software engineer. He seems to have experience is several programming languages. He talks about the differences in some languages and other software and technology topics.

3. http://www.sdtimes.com/ -This article talks about a company called "CodePlex." The company has decided to go with open-source software development. Open-source is a form of software that can be changed and modified by anyone. This opens up a lot of possibilites. Instead of having to conform to a set of rules, you can change something into something else. Without open-source software, software development in my opinion would have gone stagnant.

4. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_development -This is a wikipedia page about software development. It has quite a bit of information. Wikipedia isn't really a very reliable source for info, though. This is one case where "open-source" is not a good thing.

A developing future

A career field that has been very interesting for me is software development. I like the idea of creating something that people will be able to use for years. I’ve like this since middle school. I want to design and create games. As I’ve grown older I’ve broadened my dream into a more realistic scope. I don’t know a lot of programming languages right now. I try to learn a little at a time whenever I can. Right now I’m trying to learn. This is a very heavily used programming language; even my phone’s applications are created with it. I want to try and make a popular application for the Android platform. Android is the operating system on my phone. I’m actually excited when I meet people that have Android powered phones. Someday they may be using one of my applications.

My English Intro

Hi, I'm Steve. I'm not new to blogging, but I'm not an avid blogger by any stretch of the imagination. I've started many blogs and kept them going...for a moth at most. Sometimes I go back and try to bring them back to life, but it doesn't really work out.

Anyway I'm a gamer. I play a lot. I also mess around in Photoshop a bit. My banner is of my own creation actually. I'm an amateur programmer. I've work with Visual Basic, C++, C#, and I've started to try and learn a bit of Java. I'm interested in developing applications for the Android platform. That's an operating system developed by Google for their phones, like the Motorola Droid.

If you're curious about my screen name on here, it's from my online PC gaming escapades. Typically in an online game, if someone is killed it says "So-and-So killed you." Well when I get a kill it says that "A Poke in the Dark killed them." It's sort of funny to me. That may be because I have a strange sense of humor.

Anyway that's pretty much it. I have another blog listed over to the right. I'll add some of my other ones too.
